The owners of this house were trying to achieve the construction of a house that produced the same (or more) energy than it consumed. A major part of this equation is to reduce the energy required to heat and cool the home.
High performance windows were a key component in achieving this aim. The owners chose a combination of the thick timber profile of the IV68 and Low E/Argon double glazed units with thermal spacers for maximum thermal efficiency. Turn and Tilt units were used throughout the upstairs area, where there was concern of overheating, to allow good, secure ventilation. The downstairs area made good use of Bifold doors to maximise the living area inside and out.
The joinery is IV68 made from Accoya timber finished in a Resene water based enamel.
